Focus on R&D of characteristic plant ingredients in Yunnan

Establish an industry-leading raw material screening and evaluation system

The Yunnan Characteristic Plant Extraction Laboratory led by Botanee focuses on the Yunnan characteristic plant industry through the construction of innovative public platform projects. Through the research on functional cosmetics and functional food products development and industrialization projects of Yunnan characteristic plants, Botanee accelerates the transformation of innovation achievements, integrates and drives high-quality industrial factor resources in relevant industry chains, builds product clusters and forms sales contributions. The laboratory has established a systematic screening and evaluation system for active substances of Yunnan characteristic plants. Based on characteristic plants such as prinsepia utilis royle, purslane, camellia reticulate, Paris polyphylla var.yunnanensis, physalis, clerodendranthus, and gardenia, it has carried out a host of independent research and development efforts on those plants in terms of soothing and anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, skin barrier restoration, preservation, anti-acne and sun protection functions, and successfully achieved their commercialization.

Botanee obtained approval of new raw materials including extract of Ludwigia adscendens

On July 28, 2023, we announced that our first new raw material, extract of Ludwigia adscendens, has been filed and approved, and entered a three-year monitoring period. This marks we can continue to empower the growth the Company through differentiated independent raw material R&D and provide better experience to consumers. In addition, through intensified research on natural plant resources in Yunnan, we also made a breakthrough in extracting Prinsepia utilis Royle oil, and created Bio-lipids which has bionic lipid properties using Candida apiensis fermentation technology. Bio-lipids not only improves our products’ skin feel and serves as emollient and emulsifier, but also reduces the use of chemical ingredients and is more environmentally friendly. On December 13, two other new raw materials, fermented product of Candida bombicola/glucose/Prinsepia utilis oil and fermented product of Candida bombicola/glucose/coconut oil/Prinsepia utilis oil, were also filed and approved. These achievements not only boost raw material innovation in the cosmetics industry, but also lay a solid foundation for the rise of Chinese ingredients and the future development of Botanee.

Improved multi-dimensional evaluation system

Build 3D skin model independently

The evaluation system of Botanee Research Institute has the capability to test over 70% of the testing items compared to third-party testing institutions, and it is more comprehensive and professional in terms of anti-sensitive, repairing, and anti-aging efficacy models. In 2022, the "3D Model In Vitro Substitution Evaluation Platform" of Botanee Research Institute successfully built an in vitro recombinant full-thickness skin model, declaring a breakthrough of "from zero to one" in the independent R&D of domestic functional skin care brands in this field. The full thickness skin model is constructed using primary keratinocytes and primary fibroblasts of ethnic Chinese, including the structure of the epidermis and dermis so that it can simulate the efficacy of different skin care ingredients to the skin of ethnic Chinese. It can conduct customized skin construction and evaluation based on the efficacy of raw materials or products, bringing more possibilities for innovative R&D suitable for the healthy skin of the Chinese.
